It?s good to have connections.
It?s also good to be able to hold a life-long connection with a former football player as generous as Washington Redskins long snapper Nick Sundberg.
Sundberg played football under coach Brian Cole back in the Phoenix North Canyon days.
After Cole led Glendale Joy Christian to the Division VI state championship last season, Cole wanted to get his players rings. But they don?t come cheap, and players were going to have to chip in to buy the rings.
Along came Sundberg, who heard? about the situation.
?Without hesitation, he donated $10,000 to help fund the rings,? Cole said. ?Because of his generosity we were able to get our players rings. But that?s not all. After our basketball team won state, he paid the total cost for their rings, as well.?
On a side note, Sundberg helps fund the Arizona Interscholastic Association?s Special Olympics every year. The AIA gives an award in his name each year.
?Nick makes decent money, but he is not a ?high dollar? athlete,? Cole said. ?But he definitely is willing to give back to his community and people who have helped him along the way.?
